About the event

As Dar es Salaam continues to grow, places to spend unhurried time in nature are becoming increasingly rare. Sacred Sundays are our invitation to the community to experience Sacred Space as it was always intended: a place to slow down, reconnect with nature, learn, and simply be.

For one Sunday, we're opening the forest for you to explore at your own pace. There is no itinerary, no pressure, and nothing you need to accomplish. Bring your family, bring a friend, or come on your own. Read beneath a tree, enjoy a picnic, wander the trails, listen to the birds, or simply find a quiet place to rest.

Sacred Space is still evolving, but we didn't want to wait any longer before welcoming the community into the forest.

A Few Things to Know

Sacred Space is a real forest.

That means you'll encounter nature exactly as it is.

Birds, butterflies, insects, trees, changing weather, and uneven natural paths. We intentionally avoid excessive chemical treatments so the ecosystem can thrive.

Please wear comfortable walking shoes, bring bug repellent and sun protection if needed, and enjoy the forest as nature intended.

Our Community Agreement

We are all guests of the forest. Thank you for helping us care for it and for one another.

  • Take home everything you bring, or dispose of it in the designated bins.

  • Keep music in your headphones so everyone can enjoy the sounds of nature.

  • Respect the plants, wildlife, and fellow visitors.

  • Stay on marked paths where possible.

  • Please don't pick plants or disturb wildlife.

  • Supervise little explorers at all times.

  • Help us care for our compost toilet by following the posted instructions.

  • Leave no trace of your visit except the memories you make.

Safety

  • Children under 12 are not permitted on the tree platform.

  • Children should remain under adult supervision throughout the visit.

  • Visitors enter and explore the forest at their own discretion and are encouraged to be mindful of natural terrain and surroundings.

  • By purchasing a ticket and entering Sacred Space, visitors acknowledge that they are participating in an outdoor nature experience and accept the inherent risks associated with being in a natural environment, including uneven terrain, insects, weather conditions, and other naturally occurring elements.

  • Sacred Space, its owners, partners, staff, and event organizers shall not be held liable for injury, loss, damage, or personal property incidents except where required by applicable law.

  • Attendance is subject to the full Event Terms & Conditions, which must be accepted during the ticket purchase process.

Your Forest Pass

Your Forest Pass is more than admission to the forest. It is your conservation contribution to caring for one of Dar es Salaam's last remaining biodiverse coastal forests and helping keep this space open for our community to enjoy.

It helps us care for the forest, protect its wildlife, restore native habitats, maintain gentle low-impact facilities and support the dedicated team who steward this special place every day.

We believe that healthy ecosystems create healthier communities. By helping people slow down, reconnect with nature and with one another, we are nurturing wellbeing. Not only for today's visitors, but for future generations.
